After not yet suiting up for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2022-23, the team has announced that Cam Atkinson will miss the entire season. According to reports, Atkinson requires neck surgery. Flyers coach John Tortorella told reporters that Atkinson is confident the surgery will correct the issue and he'll be able to resume his hockey career once he recovers.

"It's been hard for him. He wants to be part of it. He wants to help," Tortorella said of Atkinson, while adding Atkinson and his doctors have made the best decision for his health and he can't wait to have Atkinson return.

Atkinson, 33, was traded to the Flyers by Columbus in exchange for Jakub Voracek in June of 2021. Last season, he played in 73 games, and scored 23 goals and 50 points.

Philadelphia indicated just two weeks ago that Atkinson was making great progress with his injury and they were hoping to have him back soon. Something obviously changed since then, but no one is saying much about it.
