San Jose Sharks defenceman Erik Karlsson is one of the best offensive defenceman of this current generation. Say what you want about how he's regressed in recent years, the 32-year-old is having a solid bounce-back season and reached a pretty big milestone on Sunday night against Calgary.

Just over half-way through the first period, the Sharks headed to the powerplay and Karlsson made a beautiful slap-pass across the ice to Timo Meier, who put it past Jacob Markstrom to tie the game at 1-1.

With his assist, Karlsson became the 27th defenceman in NHL history to record 700 career points. While it might not sound that big, it's pretty remarkable achievement when you consider how many defencemen have played in the history of the National Hockey League. The only active defenceman with 700 or more points is Carolina's Brent Burns, who sits at 799.
