According to Vancouver-based sports reporter, Irfan Gaffar, Chris Tanev's condition is looking better than initially feared after a scary incident on Monday night. Tanev blocked a Nick Suzuki one-timer, which caught the Flames' defender in the side of the head, seemingly knocking him out cold.

Tanev lied face-down on the ice for about 30 seconds before making any motion, sending a wave of fear around the Bell Centre.

Gaffar's report highlights the brand of warrior that Tanev is. He says that the tests have come back positive and that Tanev could rejoin his teammates on the ice soon.

For now, Calgary's right side is manned by Rasmus Andersson, MacKenzie Weegar and Michael Stone. Calgary's remarkable defensive depth has been tested in the early goings of '22-23, but they still find themselves in a middling position. 13-11-5 so far, the Flames' dominance of last season hasn't exactly carried over; although perhaps that sort of thing is expected when you subtract Tkachuk and Gaudreau's combined 219 points.
