According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the New York Islanders have placed Russian forward Nikita Soshnikov on waivers.

Soshnikov, 29, returned to the NHL in September, signing a one-year contract with the Islanders after spending the previous three seasons in the KHL with Salavat Yulayev Ufa, CSKA Moscow and Avangard Omsk.

In three games with the Islanders this season, Soshnikov has no points, no penalty minutes and is a minus-two.

Before returning to the KHL in 2019, the Nizhny Tagil native appeared in 87 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues where he tallied 16 points (eight goals, eight assists).
