By now everyone around the hockey community is well aware of the gruesome injury Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane suffered earlier in the week, after Tampa Bay Lightning forward Patrick Maroon accidentally sliced his arm open with his skate blade. Thankfully, the Oilers forward is expected to make a full recovery, and was able to speak with media for the first time since the incident on Saturday afternoon.

The 31-year-old Kane started off by thanking the doctors and training staff on both sides for all the quick work they were able to do to ensure that he was okay. He admitted that early on his only focus was doing everything in his power to make sure he didn't bleed out, proving just how scary the incident was. He also gave a rather detailed version of just how gruesome it was.

"I cut everything pretty much down to the bone,» Kane said after being asked what exactly the injury was. «I got really lucky that they were able to re-attach everything. They actually had to take some vein from up in a different part of my arm to help re-attach the artery. I got really lucky; unlucky, and then lucky. Thankful that I should have a full recovery."

Unfortunately for Kane and the Oilers, that recovery is expected to take up to four months, though that is still a much better situation than it could have been. In the meantime, Jay Woodcroft will look to find a new winger to try and produce in Kane's absence, though given how well he has played since joining the organization, that won't be an easy task.
