Some unfortunate news regarding Rodion Amirov dropped today.

Amirov, 21, recently traveled to North America after his battle with a brain tumor left him sidelined for the past seven months. While in Toronto, Amirov worked with the Maple Leafs, who are considerably invested in the forward's playing career, having drafted him 15th overall in 2020.
Dan Milstein, Amirov's agent, shared today via Twitter that the Russian forward is headed back to his homeland to be with family.
Milstein writes:

"Unfortunately, at the moment Rodion cannot train, as he is undergoing additional treatments. We would like to thank the Toronto Maple Leafs and Salavat Yulaev Ufa for their incredible support and willingness to do everything necessary for Rodion's comfort."
Amirov was supposed to return to action this month according to reports earlier this year, but his glioblastoma is clearly not in the rearview just yet. For now, the outlook continues to be hopeful for Amirov.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs and GM Kyle Dubas have bigger, more immediate concerns. Obviously, they want Amirov to be healthy and ready to play, but it is out of their control for now. Toronto is currently 7-4-2, which is a fine position especially considering how they started.
While they would surely like to hit on all their draft picks, their NHL-ready players are the priority as the team absolutely needs postseason success this season. Without it, the entire brass might as well pack their bags.
