Jake Oettinger left the Stars' contest against the New York Rangers after the second period due to an apparent injury, although there is no consensus as to its nature. The Stars clearly felt that injury because they allowed three goals on 7 shots in the third to lose the game.

Stars fans can only hope the decision to take Oettinger out of the game was a precautionary one. In 7 starts so far, Oettinger has a 5-1-0 record with a 1.17 GAA and .960 SV% (second-best in both). With all due respect to the trio of Joe Pavelski, Roope Hintz, and Jason Robertson, Jake Oettinger is the most irreplaceable piece on this Stars' unit.
Oettinger currently leads the NHL in 'goals saved above expected,' an advanced stat which seeks to measure how a goalie performs relative to their workload, with +9.7 GSAx.
After his injury, Scott Wedgewood took over, and let's just say Wedgewood is not Oettinger and leave it at that. In one period, Wedgewood faced 7 shots, allowing 3 goals, which would cost the Stars the game. Not that it's all on the backup, but it is definitely a ~little~ on the backup. I mean...
The last goal, Wedgewood had no chance. What a play by the Rangers. The first two, however, were brutal. I'll give Wedgewood a pass, as he came into a 3-3 game cold. But let's call a spade a spade. The first one went right through him from the point with little traffic, and the second one...I mean, just stay in the goal, pal.
The Stars drop this one, but they remain atop the Central Division, one point ahead of the Winnipeg Jets, who have a game in hand. If Oettinger is out for more than this third period, the Stars could very well be in trouble.
