The Laval Rocket, which serves as the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, made two announcements within minutes of each other on Twitter Thursday that left many people scratching their heads.

The Rocket sent out a Tweet saying former 1st-round draft pick Émile Poirier had been called up to the AHL from the Trois-Rivières Lions, which serves as Laval's ECHL affiliate.

Just two minutes later, Laval announced that Poirier's contract with the team had been terminated.

It may be because the player had to be recalled from the lower league before his contract with Laval could be terminated. However, if that's indeed the case, why even bother announcing he'd been recalled separately? Doing the whole thing together would cause much less confusion.

According to the major statistics sites, Poirier has not played for the Rocket or the Lions this season. He was signed to a one-year, two-way deal (AHL/ECHL) by Laval back in July. Despite being drafted 22nd overall by the Calgary Flames in 2013, Poirier, who is 27, has played just eight games in the NHL throughout his career. He's spent the last three seasons in the SHL, KHL and the Slovak Extraliga.
