In the latest development of the Rachel Doerrie saga, the former Canucks' front-office staffer has retained Vancouver-based labour lawyer, Peter Gall, per Jeff Marek.

Doerrie likely hired Gall to represent her in some sort of grievance -- presumably wrongful termination -- against the hockey club. Her termination was sudden and unexpected. As Marek points out, Doerrie was only recently added to Vancouver's coaching staff by Bruce Boudreau, who agreed to stay on for at least one more season earlier this year.

There has been no confirmation or explanation as to the decision to terminate Doerrie, which is unusual enough. Her tenure with the Canucks lasted eight months.

Rob Simpson, of Vancouver Hockey Now, said that the decision was made «at the highest levels of the organization.»

Her termination was reported just two days after Canucks' owner Francesco Aquilini's allegations of child abuse surfaced. Rumors and the speculation that followed suggested that Doerrie had 'liked' a tweet criticizing Aquilini over the matter, but these claims have not been substantiated.

Nevertheless, the timing of Doerrie's termination paired with the aforementioned rumor paints a spicy picture. If Doerrie does believe she was wrongfully terminated and suspects that the matter was personal, she could have a case. Fair disclaimer, I am no expert on British Columbia's labour laws.

This situation could get juicy in the weeks to follow.
