After spending the last three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Montreal Canadiens have decided defenceman William Trudeau is ready to make the jump to pro. The 20-year-old native of Varennes, QC has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Habs.

Trudeau will earn $750,000 at the NHL level in 2022-23, $80,000 at the AHL level, or $10,500 if he's sent back to the Junior level. He gets a signing bonus of $92,500 either way. The most likely scenario will see Trudeau spend the season with the Laval Rocket of the AHL. That's barring injuries to main roster players, or playing well enough to force the team's hand.

Trudeau had his best year yet on the blueline in 2021-22, scoring 44 points (8G, 36A) in 68 games with the Charlottetown Islanders.
