The Buffalo Sabres have named forward Kyle Okposo the franchise's 20th captain in its history.

GM Kevyn Adams offered high praise for Okposo and believes he is the best leader for his young group. Adams and head coach Don Granato opted not to name a captain last year under the belief that the team needed to 'foster an environment' in which, simply put, the kids can be kids.

According to EliteProspects, Buffalo fielded the NHL's eighth-youngest team with an average age of 26.71 years. Adam's, however, suggested that Okposo was always the de facto leader and deserved the 'C' more than anyone.

"It's impossible to overstate what Kyle has meant to this group - he is patient, he is a lifelong learner, he is levelheaded, and most of all, he is proud to be a Buffalo Sabre," Adams said.

Joining Okposo on the Sabres' leadership corps is Zemgus Girgonsens and Rasmus Dahlin, who will both don the 'As' for Buffalo.

Hard for Sabres fans not to be excited right now. While there is much work to be done, the future vision is slowly formulating under Adams and Granato, and they possess a bevy of quality prospects ready for promotion through the ranks. 2022-23 could be a pivotal year for these Sabres.
