The Montreal Canadiens hit the ice at their practice facility in Brossard on Thursday for the first day of training camp. It's highly unlikely the Canadiens will be as bad as they were last season given the additions of Juraj Slafkovsky, Kirby Dach, Sean Monahan, Mike Matheson and Evgenii Dadonov.

As the Canadiens opened training camp, they issued injury updates on four players including their captain, Nick Suzuki.

- Forward Nick Suzuki is out two weeks with a lower-body injury.
- Forward Josh Anderson is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
- Defenceman Joel Edmundson is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.
- Forward Jake Evans is day-to-day with an upper body injury.

In addition to those four being injured, forward Sean Monahan, who was acquired from the Calgary Flames on August 18th, hasn't been cleared to be a full participant in practice yet and is working on his conditioning. The 27-year-old underwent surgery in April to repair a torn labrum in his right hip.

The Canadiens will hold their annual 'Red vs White' game on Sunday afternoon at the Bell Centre before playing their first game of the pre-season on Monday night against the New Jersey Devils at 7 p.m. ET.
