Just under six months ago, Clayton Keller snapped his leg in a difficult-to-watch collision against San Jose. One of Arizona's best skaters, Keller's return was always a matter of his body's ability to heal, and whether or not he would be ready to start the 2022-23 season was in question.

However, while it appears that Keller will miss the preseason, he is eyeing a return by the Coyotes' opening night, when they face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins. This is fantastic news for Arizona, as they head into the upcoming season trying to avoid embarrassment.

"It was just a fluke accident," Keller said. "I lost an edge and kind of fell into the boards, and normally you can control yourself, but I was going so fast and I caught an edge, so I couldn't slide in sideways or anything. So it kind of just happened. I knew something was off when I couldn't move my leg when I was down."

Keller is looking to return by opening night, but that is still not a sure thing. At the conclusion of his surgery, 4-6 months was the general timeline and we are right around that six month mark, meaning he should be getting close.

Keller's absence is the last thing the Yotes need to start the season. They are not going to be very good either way, but without Keller, Nick Schmaltz, and Shayne Gostisbehere, there are not too many reasons to watch their games, which are to be played in a college arena.
