Evander Kane's grievance with the San Jose Sharks is reportedly in the closing sequence and awaiting finalization of paperwork. Kevin Weekes first broke the story, but it was Elliotte Friedman who actually provided the details.

Per Friedman, Kane will be awarded the difference between the value of his current contract and the contract he was owed by the Sharks; a cool $2.5 million. Kane's contract in San Jose was valued at $19 million, and his contract with the Edmonton Oilers is worth $16.5 million.

The settlement will appear in the form of a one-time 'cap charge' and will count against San Jose's salary cap from last season, which was about $5 million from the ceiling. Kane's contract with San Jose ran through 2025.

This settlement mitigates the threat of an all-or-nothing arbitration, and it puts an end to one part of the larger Evander Kane saga. The Sharks organization released the following statement in response:

"We are satisfied that its terms will not adversely impact the team, either financially or competitively, in this or future seasons."
