Some unfortunate news out of Montreal on Thursday, as Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes confirmed that Carey Price will not be available to begin the 2022-23 season, and could be forced to sit out for its entirety.

This all dwells down to a knee injury that limited Price to just five games in the 2021-22 season. There were reports early into the offseason that he may not be able to recover from his knee issue, and that certainly appears to be the case with this news. There is still a chance he is able to get back in the crease at some point, though it is feeling less and less likely.

What makes this all the more frustrating was that during the Habs miraculous run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021, Price appeared to be playing at an elite level once again after a few down seasons. It would be great to see him get healthy and return to his former self, but regardless of whether or not that happens one can't deny how great of a career he has had. The former Hart and Vezina Trophy winner has appeared in 712 career games to this point, registering a rock solid 2.51 goals against average along with a .917 save percentage.
