After parts of nine seasons in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, defenceman Greg Pateryn is hanging up the skates and has been hired by the Pittsburgh Penguins as a professional scout.

"Pateryn, 32, joins the Penguins organization as a professional scout based out of California, and will primarily scout western conference teams," The Penguins said in a statement on Monday.

The Sterling Heights (Michigan) native appeared in 290 career games in the NHL, tallying 44 points (five goals, 39 assists), 178 penalty minutes and was a minus-thirteen. He added three assists in seven playoff games in 2015 with the Montreal Canadiens.

Most recently, Pateryn spent the majority of the 2021-22 season in the American Hockey League with the San Diego Gulls, where he was named the fourth captain in franchise history.
