The Edmonton Oilers announced on Tuesday afternoon that Kevin Lowe is retiring from his role as vice chair and alternate governor of the club. Despite the retirement, the team announced that he will stay connected to the organization and community as an ambassador.

Lowe, 63, has spent 40+ years as a member of the Oilers in a variety of roles. He became the organization's first ever draft pick back in 1979, and went on to play parts of 15 seasons with them. During that time, he was able to be a part of all five Stanley Cup winning rosters, and was also able to win a sixth during his time spent with the New York Rangers. As a result of his great playing career, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2020.

Since retiring as a player, Lowe has spent time serving as the Oilers' head coach and general manager, while also serving in a number of different roles. His No. 4 is one of eight jerseys to be retired in Edmonton, alongside Al Hamilton (No. 3), Paul Coffey (No. 7), Glenn Anderson (No. 9), Mark Messier (No. 11), Jari Kurri (No. 17), Grant Fuhr (No. 31), and Wayne Gretzky (No. 99).
