The Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday that they've agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with 2022 first overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky.

Slafkovsky, 18, was widely speculated to go second overall in last week's draft, but following positive meeting with management and ownership of the Montreal Canadiens, they decided to use the first overall pick on him. Kent Hughes says they really liked that Slafkovsky can be confident, without being cocky.

The Kosice (Slovakia) native spent the 2021-22 season in Finland's top division, Liiga, with TPS Turku. In 31 games with TPS Turku, Slafkovsky recorded ten points (five goals, five assists), and 33 penalty minutes. He went on to add seven points in eighteen playoff games.

As a 17-year-old in February, Slafkovsky helped Slovakia win their first-ever Olympic medal after defeating Sweden in the bronze medal game. After scoring seven goals in seven games, Slafkovsky was named Olympic MVP.
