During his '32 Thoughts' article on Sunday, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Philadelphia Flyers have sent a legit offer to the Chicago Blackhawks for 24-year-old forward Alex DeBrincat.

"The Flyers are one of the teams that have legitimately pitched Chicago on DeBrincat — more than just tire-kicking — and they've tested the market on many of their players." Friedman said.

The Farmington Hills (Michigan) native isn't a stranger to playing in Pennsylvania. During his junior hockey days, he played for the Erie Otters in the OHL, alongside Connor McDavid for a season and Dylan Strome.

Later in the article, Friedman says that one player told him that it would make sense to move DeBrincat now. The Blackhawks are in for a lengthy rebuild and DeBrincat can become an unrestricted free agent in two years, it would be ideal for Chicago to move him now and receive assets to aid in their rebuild.

A few months ago, I refused to believe DeBrincat would be traded. Now, with each passing day, the scales tip more in favour of it happening. One player made a good argument. «He's two years from unrestricted free agency. If this rebuild is going to be as painful as we think, is he going to want to stay there? He wants to win.» Chicago has to know that, too." Friedman said.

DeBrincat had a career year in 2021-22, tallying 78 points (41 goals, 37 assists), nineteen penalty minutes and was a minus-thirteen. He has one-year remaining on his contract worth $6.4 million and will become a restricted free agent in July 2023.
