On his recent '32 Thoughts' podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned that the St. Louis Blues may be a suitor for Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Ryan McDonagh.

"One of the teams I think is there is potentially St. Louis, it makes a lot of sense, they're looking for a top 4 D, it fits with them, that's the kind of player Doug Armstrong and Craig Berube love." Friedman said.

Earlier this week, Friedman reported that the Lightning were working with McDonagh to facilitate a trade this summer. Tampa Bay has some cap issues they have to deal with and are still trying to get Jan Rutta and Ondrej Palat under contract. Both Rutta and Palat are set to become unrestricted free agents on July 13th.

McDonagh, 33, has four years remaining on his contract at a cap hit of $6.75 million. Moving McDonagh and not retaining any salary would be a big win for Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois. But it won't be easy.

The St. Paul native appeared in 71 games for the Lightning during the regular season, recording 26 points (four goals, 22 assists), sixteen penalty minutes and was a plus-fifteen. He added five points in 23 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
