Yesterday, Kevin Weekes tweeted--in typical Weekesy fashion-- that the Flyers have offered their head coaching gig to John Tortorella. Not that Torts has accepted, but that the Flyers have offered the position to him & there is still work to be done in order to get documents inked up.

There has been lots said on the subject since Weekes' report, indicating that there is indeed work to be done. There have been reports, mainly from NHL Rumors Daily, who has a strong track record of possessing well-placed sources & accurate information. He reports that the Flyers employed an outside consulting firm to assist in the interview process, which is unusual enough.

He also asserts that Fletcher is not necessarily on board with the decision to hire Torts, which begs the question: what is Chuck Fletcher's future in Philly?

Fletcher has not done a great job as Flyers' GM during his tenure. His teams have underperformed, he's made poor signings & trades, and the team is stuck in Disfunction Junction. If Tortorella does indeed accept the Flyers' coaching job, that would be a pretty serious indication that the brass is not interested in letting Fletcher make key moves, which points to Fletcher getting ousted soon enough. This should make for an interesting summer for the Philadelphia Flyers.
