New Jersey Devils' defenseman P.K. Subban was annouced as the 2022 King Clancy Memorial Trophy award winner. He is the first Devils player to win this award. Subban was a nominee for the award in four of the last five seasons.

The King Clancy award is given to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community.

Subban has created a campaign known as BlueLine Buddies, which strives for a more inclusive community.

With BlueLine Buddies, Subban invites two local police officiers and two youth from surrounding areas to every single Devils home game. The participants are treated to dinner, tickets to the game, and meeting with Subban pre- and post-game.

Subban started this program in Nashville, and eventually initiated it in New Jersey. He commented on his program,

"Our law enforcement, these are people that leave their houses and may not come back home at the end of the night. That's the job that they have, so to make them feel good, and to also be able to help underprivileged youth that don't get an opportunity like everyone else, that come from broken homes, it's a win-win."
