During Saturday's edition of 32 Thoughts on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Jeff Marek revealed that projected number one pick in the 2022 draft, Shane Wright, will meet with the Montreal Canadiens management staff on Monday. The New Jersey Devils are going to fly Wright to New Jersey for extended interviews.

"This week is the NHL draft combine in Buffalo and player interviews and players put through their paces. We'll hear terms like 'force played' and 'Wingate' and these types of things. All eyes are on Shane Wright, many believe he'll be selected first overall and Montreal holds that first pick, they're hosting the draft as well. On Monday, Shane Wright will have his first conversation with the Montreal Canadiens." Marek said.

He went on to add, "Also, interestingly, after the combine is done, the New Jersey Devils will fly Shane Wright to New Jersey for a series of extended interviews. I actually think New Jersey is going to bring six or seven other prospects as well, but perhaps most notably, Shane Wright. The New Jersey Devils, Elliotte as you talked about last week, hold the second overall draft pick, that is unless they trade it."

Wright, 18, spent the 2021-22 season in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kingston Frontenacs. In 63 games with Kingston, the Burlington (Ontario) native put up 94 points (32 goals, 62 assists), 22 penalty minutes, and was a plus-23. He went on to add fourteen points (three goals, eleven assists) in eleven playoff games.

The 2022 NHL Entry Draft will get underway on July 7th at the Bell Centre in Montreal (Quebec), with rounds two through seven on July 8th.
