When something gets stolen from you, chances of getting it back are pretty slim. Chances of it being returned seven years later have to be as close to zero as you can get. However, one man in Kelowna, BC, is all smiles after getting back a valuable hockey card that was stolen from him in 2015.

According to Kelowna police, the Wayne Gretzky card was originally taken from the home of Ian Moore in 2015. Moore reported the incident, but no leads had ever turned up. In 2019, police arrested a man and woman in Kelowna in a stolen truck that contained several items taken from a residence in the area, including a Wayne Gretzky rookie card. The card was filed in evidence after the two were arrested, and stayed there until recently.

Kelowna RCMP say they were recently involved in a clean up of the evidence area, and an officer came across the card that he thought would be valuable and should be returned to its owner. He mentioned the card to other officers at the detachment, and one of them remembered a case he had worked on in 2015. After digging through the file, the officer contacted Moore, and he was able to describe the card, "including unique details that only the owner would know," according to police.

The RCMP have not provided an estimated value for the card, but depending on the condition, it could fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars.
