After coming in and turning around the Vancouver Canucks season in a big way, it seemed to be a no-brainer that management would look to lock up Bruce Boudreau in the near future.

Boudreau, 67, has even been on record himself as of late saying he hopes to return to the Canucks organization. According to general manager Jim Rutherford, however, that remains to be seen. While the long time NHL GM did say he hopes to have Boudreau back, he also went out of his way to say that he does not want to lock him up past the 2022-23 campaign, as he has yet to work a full season in Vancouver.

These comments are extremely interesting given the fact that with Boudreau's already well-respected resume around the league, along with how well he did in Vancouver this season, several teams would likely line up to hire him if the Canucks choose to let him walk. Many believe these comments suggest that there is a rift between Rutherford and Boudreau, something that we may become more privy to this summer.
