Yesterday, the International Ice Hockey Federation announced that they've removed Russia from hosting the 2023 World Hockey Championship next May and that a replacement will be named at next month's council meeting.

Expectedly, the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia was not happy with this ruling and have announced that they will appeal the IIHF's decision.

The following is translated from Russian.

"The decision to deprive Russia of the World Cup will be appealed in due time. A meeting has been scheduled for May 3 to appeal against the deprivation of the MFM and the removal of the national team from the upcoming World Cup," said Alexander Kiknadze, Deputy Executive Director of the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia.

Russia was set to host both the 2023 World Juniors and 2023 World Championship, but due to their country's unprovoked attack on Ukraine, the IIHF removed them from hosting duties.
