A colour commentator with the British Columbia Junior Hockey League was fired mid-game after making a racist comment regarding Owen Kim of the Langley Rivermen. The Rivermen were taking on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Friday night when Kim got into a scuffle with an opponent.

"Ah, Kim. Give it a break. Get on a ladder and talk to him," said Bruce MacDonald.

"Does he speak English?' MacDonald continued. "Maybe that's the problem."

His co-broadcaster immediately called him out for it saying "ah come on, that's too far."

This took place in the second period. MacDonald was not in the broadcast booth for the third, and the President of the Bulldogs says he won't be returning.

"I got a text message with a little over five minutes to go in the second period from our league office with a clip with the audio," said David Michaud. "We instantly decided at that point that Bruce would be removed from the broadcast, and future broadcasts as far as I'm concerned. He's not welcome back on the air representing our hockey club."

Michaud says he apologized personally to Kim after the game.

"...and he had just sort of started to understand what was happening and was really upset by that," Michaud says. "He wasn't very accepting of an apology at this point and I don't blame him. I just hope he knows that the BCHL and our organization support him."

Following the game, the BCHL released the this statement:

Kim, 17, was born and raised in North Vancouver.
