The Columbus Blue Jackets announced on Friday afternoon that they've agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with 2021 first round pick Kent Johnson. The contract will begin immediately, and Johnson will report to the Blue Jackets on Monday.

Johnson, 19, was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Blue Jackets. He returned to the University of Michigan for a second season, and helped them reach the Frozen Four, but they ultimately lost to in the semi-finals, in overtime, to Denver.

In 32 games this season, Johnson had 37 points (eight goals, 29 assists), six penalty minutes, and was a plus 25. He also represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing (China) where he was a point-per-game player, tallying five points in five games.

"Kent Johnson is a remarkable young man both on and off the ice," said Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen. "He is a highly-skilled and creative player who can bring you out of your seat whenever he's on the ice. We're thrilled that he is taking the next step in his career and look forward to his growth and contributions as a Blue Jacket for years to come."
