According to a report from La Presse, the National Hockey League may be hosting games next season at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City. The report says that the Ottawa Senators are likely to play five regular season games at the 18,259 seat arena.

During a virtual meeting between Gary Bettman and the Quebec government, there were discussions on how to prove that the market was ready to host the NHL once again, and it was the Commissioner who mentioned the idea of the Senators playing games there.

"Subsequently, the NHL presented a scenario to Quebec to verify its interest in hosting five Senators games. The financial package is 'in preparation', but not finished, it is specified."

When asked about this report, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly played it down, saying that discussions are at the preliminary stage, nothing has been finalized.

"There have been expressions of interest and very preliminary discussions at this point. Nothing more," Daly said.

To add another wrinkle to this report, according to Anthony LeBlanc, the Senators' president of business operations, the team has held discussions with Quebec City in regards to potentially co-hosting the 2023 World Juniors in December.

"Are we have discussions with the Quebec government and Quebecor? Yes, we have in the last couple of weeks, purely about the potential of hosting the world junior championship," LeBlanc said.

The Senators are reportedly not happy with the timing of the report from La Presse after team owner Eugene Melnyk passed away on Monday night.

"In those talks, was the idea thrown out, 'Hey, if there's a desire for neutral site games?' The idea has been floated but it's never really been discussed. I can't remember who brought it up," LeBlanc said. "The idea that we are going to be playing in Quebec City is very disingenuous."
