Sidney Crosby has been known as one of his generation's talents since he came into the league, and his opinion on opposing players has become a very respected one. The Colorado Avalanche recently traded one of their top prospects Justin Barron to the Montreal Canadiens in the Artturi Lehkonen trade, and the news surprised Crosby to say the least.
Crosby revealed this to long-time teammate Kris Letang who appeared on a TVA Sports podcast.
"Upon hearing of the trade, Crosby said, 'I never would have done this if I was the Avalanche. That kid, he's a real hockey player. He's ready to play in the NHL and he will become a good player," Letang said.
"He really bragged to me," continued the veteran Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman. "I don't know if it's because they skated together in Halifax in the summer! (laughs) It's usually rare for Sid to say such things about a player. When he told me that, I thought it must be true!"
"According to him, Barron has a very good first pass, a good vision of the game, he skates well and he is able to play well offensively and defensively. He said he will eventually play 20-22 minutes per game," Letang stated.
"You can't predict the future, but that's the impression Sid got after watching Barron play. He thinks the Avalanche should have kept him and that he shouldn't have been traded."
This is great news for Habs fans who appear to have a gem defenseman coming up through their system, and perhaps general manager Kent Hughes made a bargain trading the fan-favorite Lehkonen.
