It had been talked about for weeks leading up to the trade deadline, and we now know that defenceman Mark Giordano's short time with the Seattle Kraken is over. Giordano, who was taken from Calgary in the expansion draft, has been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Leafs acquired Giordano and forward Colin Blackwell from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2022 NHL Draft, a second-round selection in the 2023 NHL Draft and a third-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft. As part of the trade, Seattle will retain 50 percent of Giordano's contract.

Giordano, who was born and raised in Toronto, had spent his entire career with the Flames before being taken in the expansion draft. He was named captain of the Kraken shortly after his arrival. The 38-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

Toronto has had a busy Sunday, signing goaltender Harri Sateri, who just won an Olympic gold medal with Finland, to a one year deal. At the same time, netminder Petr Mrazek was placed on waivers.
