San Jose Sharks star forward Timo Meier apparently is still extremely hopeful for his team to make the playoffs even with the Sharks' chances being extremely limited. San Jose currently sits nine points out of a playoff spot with a 26-25-1 record and would have to overtake five teams in order to make the playoffs.
We believe we can still make it into the playoffs, Meier said. We believe in each other. Sometimes, you gotta be honest. We had a chat with each other as a team. Teams are going to go through this. It's important that it gets you together, tighter, better.
The team recently got veteran defenseman Erik Karlsson back from injury, which has provided a sizable boost to the lineup. At this point, it wouldn't be surprising if Karlsson had some robot parts in order to keep his body performing, considering how many injuries he has had over the past couple of years.
Johnathan Dahlen, Jacob Megna, and Adin Hill are a couple of other players that have recently recovered from injuries and have been drawn back into the lineup. According to moneypuck.com, the Sharks currently have just a 2.7% chance of making the playoffs. They would have to surpass teams possibly including the Anaheim Ducks, Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Stars, and Vegas Golden Knights. It's not impossible, but it would take a huge hot streak and a bit of luck for San Jose to find themselves in the postseason once again.
