A trade proposal has emerged sending Blue Jackets star forward Patrik Laine to the Montreal Canadiens by analyst Grant McCagg.

In the sick podcast between Tony Marinaro and Grant McCagg the idea floats around involving former 2nd overall pick Patrik Laine heading to the Canadiens as he can be this year's "Kirby Dach" for general manager Kent Hughes.

The proposal was the following:

TRADE PROPOSAL

Canadiens receive: Patrik Laine

Blue Jackets receive: One of Jayden Struble/Jordan Harris and 2024 first round pick (WPG)

What could be a fair trade for Patrik Laine?

@grantmccagg
: "If Struble or Harris wasn't enticing enough along with a first round pick, the next logical step would be Mailloux. I'd consider that"

McCagg also mentionned how if the Blue Jackets aren't sold on Harris or Struble, Logan Mailloux can be involved and the Canadiens would still benefit on the deal.

It was a year to forget for Patrik Laine, dealing with injuries and mental health issues but he seems to get his shape back going into the 2024-25 NHL season. The talent is there, and there is a reason he was picked second overall in the first place.
