The Boston Bruins, despite losing several key veterans this past summer are once again competing for top spot in their division, and with the trade deadline looming, they have a chance for some major upgrades.
Boston to land a hometown star?
While they've been linked to some top names, now, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has revealed that the Bruins are actively targeting Boston native Noah Hanifin of the Calgary Flames.
Hanifin is having a fantastic year once again, tallying 8 goals and 25 points in 49 games after posting a combined 86 points over the past two years, and with this production, several teams including New Jersey and Arizona are reportedly interested.
Will the Flames move Hanifin ahead of the deadline?
Pagnotta notes that the Flames offered Hanifin a long-term extension this summer which was ultimately turned down, and after trying again recently, it makes too much sense for the team to move him.
"Hanifin held off signing an eight-year extension with Calgary at the start of the season worth a reported $7.5M per season. The Flames reapproached him recently, but no deal yet. Teams know what he wants long-term, which might not help trade negotiations from Calgary's perspective, but if the Flames can't convince him to stay, they'll look to move him." Pagnotta said."
It's unclear what Boston would want to give up in a deal, but the Flames are reportedly interested in early 20's players who are NHL ready, and with the Bruins having several of those, it's a potential deal that just makes sense for both parties.
