Bolts Player Draws Controversial Penalty.
The NHL season officially began yesterday. The first matchup of the year: The Tampa Bay Lightning received the Nashville Predators in what ended up being a tightly disputed game.
A small sequence of the game is going viral at the moment, as a Lightning player draws a penalty by acting.
Connor Sheary, who signed a three-year deal with the Lightning this summer, played his first official game in the Bolts' uniform.
During the game, he was battling for the puck against Jeremy Lauzon and made a move that fans didn't appreciate.
Sheary Fakes Stick Hit, Provokes Bad Call by the Referees
Lauzon and Sheary were battling for the puck, and as Lauzon's stick gets close to Sheary's face, he makes the ref believe he got hit.
You can see the video here, and it doesn't put the referees in a good light!
"Just for the public record, Jeremy Lauzon's stick doesn't touch Conor Sheary here. Full-on embellishment." This type of technique is used often in the NHL, but it's still frustrating to watch, especially when your favorite team is on the receiving end of the call.
