After having his contract with the San Jose Sharks terminated in early January, Evander Kane has a new home. He is signing a contract with the Edmonton Oilers for the rest of this season. Here are the details according to Elliotte Friedman.

"Kane deal in EDM is for $750K in salary and $625K in signing bonus, which means an approximate $2.1M cap hit. Full NMC."

"The exact cap hit is TBD," Friedman continued. "If contract is officially signed before or after 5 ET...if before, slightly under $2.1M. If after, slightly above it."

This is Kane's fourth NHL team since being drafted into the league in 2009 by the Atlanta Thrashers. After the Thrashers became the Winnipeg Jets, Kane was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in 2015. He was traded to San Jose in 2018.

There was some belief that Kane would have to serve a suspension before suiting up in the NHL again. The Sharks sent him to the AHL after he served a 21 game suspension for submitting a fake COVID-19 vaccination card. Once he was eligible to play, he was sent to the AHL where trouble found him again. The Sharks decided to terminate his deal after it was discovered that he had travelled to his home in Vancouver while he was supposed to be in isolation after testing positive for COVID.

Kane had a rough 2021. He filed for bankruptcy and it was revealed in court documents that he had a gambling problem. He has since stated he has beaten that issue. He was also accused of domestic violence among several other things by his ex-wife. None of those allegations have been proven.
