According to TSN's Chris Johnston, the Montreal Canadiens have placed defenceman Sami Niku on today's waiver wire. Additionally, the Chicago Blackhawks have put veteran forward Brett Connolly on waivers.

Niku, 25, had his contract bought out by the Winnipeg Jets back in September, with the Montreal Canadiens signing him to a one-year contract a few days later. In 13 games this season with the Canadiens, Niku has six assists, two penalty minutes and is a plus-three.

Connolly, 29, has spent time with the Blackhawks and their AHL affiliate in Rockford during the 2021-22 season. When he stepped on the ice with Rockford this season, it was a the first time since the 2013-14 season that he had played in the American Hockey League. In four games with Chicago, Connolly has no points, but he's recorded eleven points in sixteen games with Rockford.

We should know shortly after 2pm ET on Thursday if Niku and Connolly have cleared waivers or not.
