A very strange and sad story involving a young hockey player in Russia. According to reports, the 24-year-old was brutally murdered with an axe by a tenant just a month before marrying his fiancee.

"The body of the murdered man was discovered by his brother and fiancee. They arrived at the apartment after he stopped answering the phone. Upon entering the apartment, they saw a pool of blood. The body lay in the room, and next to it was a bloody axe," reported TV and radio broadcaster TRT.

The day before the murder, the victim, who has been identified as Vladimir Payul, and his girlfriend had sent out invitations to their wedding.

A suspect has been arrested. According to reports, the 34-year-old suspect had been asked to move by Payul as he wanted to sell the complex his apartment was in. The man refused. A fight broke out between the two, and Payul was later found near the axe.

Payul spent some time in the MHL, Russia's junior league, as well as playing for teams in Belarus. He was attempting to get into the VHL, which is the second-tier league in Russia after the KHL, but had also become involved in selling real estate. Since April of last year, he had completed at least 16 property transactions.
