It's been a while since an NHL goaltender has been suspended, but that may change very soon. Aaron Dell of the Buffalo Sabres will have a hearing Wednesday with the NHL's Department of Player Safety for blatant interference on Drake Batherson of the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night. Here's the hit. There was no call on the play.

"It's a bad play by (Dell) and he's done it before," said Ottawa coach D.J. Smith. "It's a bad play and it's unfortunate. A young kid isn't going to be able to go to an All-Star game and it's ridiculous."

Batherson is out long-term with an ankle injury.

"Sources say Drake Batherson has a high ankle sprain," said reporter Bruce Garrioch. "Once the swelling goes down the club will have a better idea on the time line. One way or another it's long-term and sprains can be worse than a break."

According to reporter Murray Pam, the last goaltender to be suspended in the NHL was Jamie McLennan, who was with the Calgary Flames at the time. He received five games for a slash to Johan Franzen of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2007 playoffs. It was never served due to McLennan retiring.
