The competition to be the next general manager of the Vancouver Canucks is reportedly over. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, and Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford has picked a person he has a history with.

Patrik Allvin served as assistant GM with the PIttsburgh Penguins under Rutherford, and served as interim GM when Rutherford decided to step down. Allvin had been with the Penguins organizations for 16 years in various roles. An official announcement on his new role is expected Wednesday.

Other noted candidates in the running were Scott Mellanby, who was most recently Montreal's assistant General Manager but resigned because he wasn't in the running for the GM role, Sean Burke, whose most recent role was goaltending coach for the Montreal Canadiens last season, and Mathieu Darche, Director of Hockey Operations with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
