The NHL's Department of Player Safety (DoPS) announced on Saturday morning that they have fined Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Cal Foote $2,125, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking.

The incident occurred during Friday night's game, one in which the Lightning lost by a score of 5-1 to the Anaheim Ducks. Foote, 23, cross-checked Robinson in retaliation to a hard hit he took earlier in the game. The two dropped the gloves immediately afterward, and Foote was assessed a two-minute minor for cross-checking.

This play was one we see relatively often in the NHL, but nonetheless the DoPS chose to fine Foote. The good news is that he avoided suspension, and will be able to suit up for the Bolts' game tonight versus the San Jose Sharks.
