After the announcement that the Calgary Flames agreement with the city of Calgary to build a new arena to replace the Scotiabank Saddledome was terminated, many people were extremely upset. One person that showed his displeasure was the Premier of Alberta, Jason Kenney.

«I'm very disappointed that the City of Calgary decided to change the deal at the last minute when construction was ready to proceed,» Kenney stated.

Kenney went on to say that he thought that the deal was good to go, and that he thinks this will be a regrettable decision in the future.

"I was encouraged that the city and ownership had come to an agreement and I think it's regrettable that the city at the last minute decided to change parameters."

The proposed Calgary Events Centre wouldn't have just been monumental for the Flames, but also for the city of Calgary in general. Kenney believed it would have helped the city «get its mojo back,» and he hopes that the city and the Flames will possibly get a deal done in the future.

Calgary Sports and Entertainment pulled out of the deal after after the City reportedly asked for more money from the group for cost overruns. The City itself had agreed on another additional $6 million for the project, while asking CSEC for another just over $9 million.
