If a clearer indication that signing goaltender Matt Murray to a four-year, $25 million contract was a mistake was needed, here it is. The Ottawa Senators took on the Anaheim Ducks Friday night, and even though Murray is not injured, he wasn't in the lineup.

"OTT head coach DJ Smith indicates Anton Forsberg starts vs ANA, with Filip Gustavsson as backup. Matt Murray will be a scratch," said Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on Twitter.

Murray is a two-time Stanley Cup champion and the first goaltender to win back-to-back Cups while still considered a rookie. It's tough the blame Ottawa for scratching him, though. Murray has started six games for the Sens this season. His record is 0-5-0, with a 3.26 GAA and a .890 save percentage. Not nearly good enough for the $6.25 million he's getting in salary each season.

Scratching Murray didn't help much. The Sens lost 4-0 to the Ducks.
