There is some developing news on the lawsuit against the Chicago Blackhawks filed by Kyle Beach and another young hockey player known as John Doe 2. According to TSN's Rick Westhead, all sides have agreed to sit down with a mediator to see if a settlement can be reached in both cases.

"The Chicago Blackhawks and a lawyer representing Kyle Beach and John Doe 2 have agreed to mediation to try to settle the two lawsuits," said Westhead.

"The sides are scheduled to meet in December for a day to try to settle Beach's lawsuit before reconvening for a second day re: John Doe 2's case."

That said, Westhead is cautioning that this may not get anything done.

"Yes, there's reason to be optimistic but also important to manage expectations," he added. "Mediation is non-binding. Either side can walk away at any time."

Beach filed a lawsuit in 2020 alleging sexual assault at the hands of former Blackhawks video coach Brad Aldrich. The suit by John Doe 2 stems from Aldrich sexually assaulting him after leaving the Blackhawks and working with high school hockey players in Michigan. Aldrich is now a registered sex offender in that state due to a conviction in John Doe 2's case. An independent investigation stated the Blackhawks did nothing regarding Beach's allegations against Aldrich, which allowed him to continue on with his career after leaving the team.
