It seems neither the AHL nor the father of Cole Caufield are happy with a tweet directed at him by the Utica Comets over the weekend. While the Comet were taking on the Laval Rocket, the team's Twitter account took aim at Caufield and his recent demotion to the AHL in a now deleted Tweet.

"Yo @colecaufield are you here? Everyone keeps saying you're here but we haven't noticed. Did you not play the first period?"

Utica followed that up with another Tweet later on telling people that it was a joke.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the league spoke to the Utica Comets social media team to tell them these kinds of Tweets aren't appropriate. Paul Caufield, Cole's father, was not a fan either.

"I see this thing to my kid from a professional hockey team," Paul Caufield said. "Bullying him. And I couldn't believe it. I was like, 'Is that a fake account or something?' They didn't just say it. They sent it to my kid. When professional sports teams do something like that, I think someone should be held accountable. With all the mental health issues the NHL is having, now you have an AHL team doing this stuff?"

"There are a lot of pressures playing professional hockey, and you have a kid who is up (in the NHL) and struggling and he gets sent down," Paul Caufield said. "As a 20-year-old kid, your mind is all over the map. He doesn't need another professional sports team jabbing at him like that. That's bad."

Chirping on the ice has been a part of hockey since its inception it seems. However, with the rise of social media, more and more team accounts are taking things further and further. It's mostly in good fun, although this seemed a bit like kicking someone while they're down.
