The Bratislava Capitals of the Austrian-based ICE Hockey League is making a special application to league officials to withdraw from the rest of the season.

"Due to the tragic events that have struck our club in recent days, we have decided to ask the management of the transnational ICE Hockey League to suspend our participation for the rest of this season," said the team in a post on its Instagram account. "The club has decided not to play in the league this season, but will not be withdrawing from the league. We will wait for feedback from the league management."

The Capitals' Boris Sadecky died three days after collapsing during a game on October 30th. It is believed he suffered cardiac arrest. Just two days after Sadecky's death, the team's GM, Dusan Pasek, was found dead in his home after taking his own life. It's still not clear whether the two incidents are related in any way. Pasek's father died in 1998 under similar circumstances.

"For now, we thank our players for their efforts so far and their hockey hearts that they have left on the ice for every single game. We hope the fans will understand this decision and support us in this difficult time," said the club's post.

After playing 14 games so far, Bratislava sits tenth in the league out of 14 teams. The team's coach is Peter Draisaitl, father of NHL star Leon Draisaitl.
