Montreal Canadiens defenceman Joel Edmundson came into training camp with an undisclosed injury that has forced him to miss all five of the team's pre-season games, and it appears that they'll be without his services for the next few weeks.

"He isn't making good progress, and the athletic therapists asked to do more in-depth testing, and the news wasn't very positive, so he'll miss more time than we thought," Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme said when asked if Edmundson would skate on his own after Wednesday's practice.

He added, "Last week they told me he'd be back and it was really day-to-day. Now, we're expecting it to be more like two to three weeks."

Edmundson, 28, played in 55 games for the Canadiens last season where he tallied 13 points (3 G, 10 A), 25 penalty minutes, and was a +28. He put up six assists in 22 playoff games, helping Montreal reach their first Stanley Cup Final since 1993.

Ducharme also announced on Wednesday that goaltender Carey Price won't practice with the team before the start of the season and will miss next Wednesday's opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
