On January 28th of next year, the winningest goaltender in the history of the New York Rangers will have his jersey lifted to the rafters at Madison Square Garden and his number retired. The ceremony will take place just before a game against the Minnesota Wild, and according to reports that is no coincidence.

AftonBladet states Henrik Lundqvist made a couple of requests of the Rangers before giving the go ahead for the ceremony. One of them was that former longtime teammate and friend Mats Zuccarello be in attendance. Zuccarello signed a five-year contract with the Wild in 2019.

There was one more. AftonBladet reports Lundqvist insisted his twin brother Joel be at MSG for the festivities.

"Frölunda's sports manager Fredrik Sjöström informed me early on what was going on and my brother wanted me in place," said Joel. "Together with the New York Rangers, we have tried to find the most suitable date and it has not been an easy puzzle to solve. It has been difficult to get it completely perfect, but we have found a viable solution and I am grateful that Frölunda has given me the opportunity to be at this unique event."

Joel Lundqvist played a total of 134 games in the NHL, all of them with the Dallas Stars. He's been a member of Frölunda since 2009. He will miss some games with his team in order to be at his brother's ceremony, but that's something Frölunda has agreed to.

As for tickets to the game where the number retirement will take place, several reports have said that prices went from around $200 to over $1000 in a matter of minutes.
