The Edmonton Oilers, nearing the end of their prospect games, have announced a significant injury to one of their rookies on Sunday.

22-year-old Russian defenseman Dmitri Samorukov will reportedly find himself sidelined for at least the next six weeks after suffering a broken jaw during Saturday's game against the Calgary Flames prospects.

Samorukov, who was drafted by the Oilers in the 3rd round back in 2017 (84th-overall), spent last season in the KHL with CSKA Moscow, registering 8 points in 48 games in his first pro season in Russia.

The former Guelph Storm blueliner has already played professional hockey in North America, spending the 2019-20 season with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, tallying 10 points in 47 games.

His production at the OHL level was relatively good, especially in the postseason. Back in 2018-19 with Guelph, Samorukov posted 10 goals and 45 points in 59 games during the regular season, but absolutely stood out in the postseason, producing 28 points in 24 games en route to an OHL championship with the Storm.
