More trouble for Montreal Canadiens draft pick Logan Mailloux. The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) has announced the 18-year-old is suspended indefinitely.

"Ontario Hockey League Commissioner David Branch today announced that London Knights player Logan Mailloux has been suspended indefinitely as a result of an incident that occurred November 2020 in Sweden, while the player was on loan to SK Lejon," said the league in a statement. "This violated the League's expectation of the appropriate conduct of an OHL player."

"The player will have the opportunity to apply for reinstatement to the League on or after January 1, 2022. A decision regarding reinstatement will be based in part on his conduct since his return to Canada and the appropriate treatment, counselling, mentoring and or education he receives from the date of this decision."

Montreal surprised many by selecting Mailloux in the first round (31st overall) in the latest draft after he specifically asked teams not to select him saying he needed more time to mature. Mailloux received a 14,300 SEK fine (approximately $1,640.00 USD or $2,000.00 CAD, at the time) for sharing a non-consensual intimate image of a young woman he took while the two were engaging in a sexual act. Mailloux was 17 at the time, while the young woman was 18. While the conviction had made the news in Sweden, it was not known about in North America until Mailloux went public with it himself days before the draft.

The Montreal Canadiens have said they will work with Mailloux to ensure that he understands the consequences of his actions and that he's held accountable for them. The team has already said he will not attend rookie camp or the team's training camp coming up this month. Mailloux is not old enough to play in the AHL, so the OHL was his only other option. The London Knights had previously said they would welcome back Mailloux for the 2021-22 season. His suspension throws a bit of a wrench in those plans, especially if his application for reinstatement in January is denied.
